I’m showering my baby plants with all the water until they come back to life. I managed to partially kill some flowers I planted a couple weeks ago and I’m convinced they are dead because I’m used to the watering patterns of succulents. Speaking of, I’ve been doing some research on pinching back some of my overgrown plants, but haven’t actually taken the plunge. Hopefully April will be a turning point in my gardening skills for the year or I’m going to be in trouble…sheesh.

Lately, I’ve been working on cultivating a better prayer life. I started reading A Praying Life with some folks at work and I am feeling really challenged by what I’m learning and some of the suggestions on how to better put prayer into action. The biggest positive change for me this far has been creating prayer cards and writing very brief verses and phrases that serve as a reminder of specific things to pray about. Growing in this area is one of my biggest goals for 2018.

I’m participating in The 100 Day Project – where I’ll be attempting to share 100 blog posts – and I’m expecting to see LOTS of inspiration coming from my favorite blog and Instagram friends like RUKristin, Adele from Inkie Quill and Elise Joy. It’s my first time. Are you participating this year?

The list is long this month! I’m in the market to buy some new clothes for work/home and I have no real direction other than needing jeans because I currently have one pair that is in dire need of replacing. If you have some curvy girl jean suggestions or favorite stores, let me know!

Kevin and I are wearing down on some of our favorite go-to recipes, so we’ve been trying to add some new ones to the mix. Currently, we are loving the chicken and swiss bake (I like to include veggies) as well as these blackened tilapia bowls. I’m all about finding new healthy meals to try, so I’m very interested to see what you all are cooking lately!

F I N I S H I N G

I’ve recently finished a couple books I started reading at the end of last year. My goal for is 2018 is twenty, so I’m on a pretty good pace for the year. Any recommendations I can add to my list?

S U B S C R I B I N G

I catch up on all my favorite blogs on an app called Feedly. I’ve added quite a few new ones to my list lately and have enjoyed some “old” faves: My Favorite Adventure, The Larson House, Young House Love, Learning to Live on Purpose, and Amanda Rose Zampelli. As you can tell, I’m all over the board as far topics I like to read about.

I’ve had my eye on some new shoes lately and I’ve been keeping my eye on these and these. It kind of seems ridiculous to be buying open toed shoes while it’s 30 degrees or less outside, but hey…a girl can dream!

W A T C H I N G

I’m not normally a huge TV person (give me all the books), but I’ve had the Olympics on in the background every chance I get. Kevin and I are also tying to get caught up on This Is Us, so that’s on the to-do list for the next couple days.

At the beginning of the month, I started a photography challenge and I’m excited about how it’s going so far. At this point I’ve used all of my lenses and a wide variety of subjects inside my house. I’m hoping to make time for a photoshoot or photo walk by the end of the month.

S T A R T I N G

Kevin and I are over here starting the year strong with our goals. I love the magic of a new year, especially when it falls on a Monday (double win!).

H O P I N G

I’m really hoping the weather starts to warm back up soon…Ugg boots, two pairs of pants and starting my car 15 minutes before I have to leave just irritates me. It seems even colder every year, so eventually I’m going to have to move to Florida.

S C H E D U L I N G

What I’m not scheduling is a better question! I’ve got a new planner and I’m tracking all the things as well as my goals for the year – plus the first of the year always feels like a good time to check in with the dentist and eye doctor.

R E A D I N G

One of my goals for the year is to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and I’ve hit the ground running. When I read through the Bible the first time, God did a number on my heart. I’m looking forward to what He has in store this year.

P L A Y I N G

My favorite podcasts are playing back to back. I’m especially digging: Young House Love Has a Podcast, Journeywomen Podcast, The Scrap Gals, and Crafty Ass Female.

CELEBRATING: Kevin asked me to be his girlfriend in September eight years ago, so we’re celebrating all of our adventures since then. He even surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers!

WATCHING: Lately, I’ve been watching YouTube videos more than anything else. I tend to listen to or watch crafty videos while I’m working on my own projects, so some of my current favorites are Cori at The Reset Girl, Ali Brown, Courtney at Little Raven Ink, and Adele at Inkie Quill. There are also a couple of new music videos I’ve watched recently: P!NK and Taylor Swift.

WELCOMING: It feels like the weather in mid-Missouri has really cooled down, so we’ve been welcoming the nice fall-like weather with more outdoor activities. Bring on the PSL, leaves, layered clothes, and football games.

PREPARING: College football and tailgating generally takes up a lot of our falls (in the best way possible) and this year we are adding some basketball to the mix starting in November. We’re preparing and hoping for a great sports season here!

PHOTOGRAPHING: Labor day weekend really helped me get back behind my camera. Each year over Labor Day weekend, I shoot our family golf tournament and then I also brought my camera along to a church picnic that we attended. I always notice that the more I use my camera, the more I want to continue using it.

SNACKING: I recently stopped eating gluten, most dairy, high fructose corn syrup and a few other things, so my snacking has really turned into anything I can find that doesn’t include those things. It’s definitely not a bad thing, but dang, it’s not easy!

ANTICIPATING: Last month, I started having issues with the way that I was hosting my photos. To make a long story short, I used a 3rd party website to store my photos and then I linked them into my blog. I found this method on pinterest and loved it because it allowed me to share big beautiful photos instead of teeny tiny ones that wordpress allows with their media tool. I was naive in thinking that they would let me do this forever with the giant images I was uploading straight from my camera, but they finally caught on and shut down all of my photos. Once this happened, all you could see were big grey boxes that basically proclaimed to the world that I needed to pay them to see my photos again. I don’t think I’ll be going that route, but luckily, my photos were all backed up on a hard drive. I’m anticipating having to go back through to re-upload some photos here and there to make my blog posts complete. If you’re a blogger, I’d love to know how you manage/store the photos for your blog.

BORROWING: I’m starting out the month with a few books checked out at the library and I’m planning on borrowing a few more before the month’s over. In comparison to the past couple years, I’ve really been powering through some books. Current reads: The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, Love Does by Bob Goff, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. If you have any recommendations for future reads, let me know in the comments! (GoodReads)

ADMIRING: Over the last month, I’ve been pretty hooked on watching YouTube and following along with some of my favorite artists. I’ve been particularly admiring the work of artists like Ali Brown, Retro Hip Mama Andrea Grey, Adele at Inkie Quill and Courtney at the Little Raven Ink.

PURCHASING: Since I started doing more portraits, I have had my eye on a 50mm prime lens for my camera and on Prime Day last month I finally made the plunge. It’s not an expensive lens, comparatively, but dang is this thing sharp. An Amazon review really sealed the deal when it said that it is an amazing lens for pet photography.

DOCUMENTING: About a month ago, I thought I had lost over 50,000 photos from my hard drive ranging from the beginning of college (2010) until now. Since then, I have been making sure to keep my pictures printed and my albums up to date. I try to be realistic about what I actually document. For project life, I do about a layout a month unless there are special events that I need to include. Aside from that, I make a mini book for each vacation and I also have a garden journal that I’m working on.

ACCOMPLISHING: The last couple of weeks, I’ve been setting priorities for the week before it starts in order to feel like I’m running the week as opposed to having the week run me. I’m keeping this list to just a couple things which is leaving me with much more time to be flexible in the moment. This is one of the things I envisioned for my word of the year, thrive, at the beginning of 2017 and I finally feel like I’m making progress on that!

ENJOYING: I’m participating in Camp Reset, a online retreat style workshop hosted by Cori Spieker (aka The Reset Girl). The purpose of the retreat is to work on self care, especially in the areas of making habits, healthy eating, exercise and being creative. I’ve been a part of Cori’s community for quite some time, so I’m excited to keep this up throughout July.

READING: Funny you should ask… I have four books in the works right now, three for book clubs going on at work and then a personal one. To be honest, I really dislike reading more than one book at a time but here we are. The current reads are Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing (so far, I don’t recommend), Love Lives Here by Maria Goff (this is an easy read and while I am liking it, I don’t necessarily relate to it very well), How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie (not far enough into this yet to give you my opinion), and Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God by Timothy Keller (so far, I’m really loving it). If you want to keep up with me in real time, add me as a friend on GoodReads.

SPENDING: Kevin and I went to Kansas City this weekend and spent a few dollars and over five hours in IKEA. We’ve been wanting to go for a while, so we had quite the list prepared. We’ve been looking for a rug for our bedroom since we moved in to our house over a year ago, so I have to say that this was my favorite find.
