It’s been a while since I posted anything related to plants here on my blog. Actually, my last post was on March 29th when I mentioned that my roommates cats had eaten my plants and knocked my pots off the table, breaking a majority of them. At the time I didn’t have the time/money/energy to replace everything, so I just waited it out. My mom ended up separating and re-potting her African Violets so I did get a couple of those but it wasn’t until this Christmas when I was really able to add to my collection.

For Christmas, Kevin gave me the AeroGarden 6 by Miracle Grow, which is allowing me to grow my garden indoors. At the moment, I am growing some herbs – Genovese Basil, Thai Basil, Cilantro, Curly Parsley, Dill and Mint. Each little pod has a seed or two tucked away and between the light and water storage tank, all I have to do is put fertilizer in every two weeks and wait for the plants to grow. Each pod has an estimated sprout time, the range of which was between 6 and 12 days (although a few of them didn’t even take that long).

I have loved checking on these guys every single day and it is downright amazing how quickly they are growing in this setting. I got these all set up during the last week of December and about a month later, a couple of them are about 8-10 inches tall. The mint one still hasn’t started growing, so we are wondering if maybe the seed was bad or if there isn’t one at all.

Sadly, the basil started growing so fast that it touched the light before I figured out that I was supposed to move the overhead piece by hand. I was able to move it and prune the dead leaves back, and it has continued to grow like crazy.

Other than veggies my mom has grown, I’ve never eaten anything I’ve planted so we are excited to incorporate these herbs into a few recipes! I’m already starting to look into pods for the future and there are tons of options from petunias to peppers to a kit that has everything you need to make your own salsa!

I’ll keep you all updated on how amazing they taste!
